Why We Use a Moisture Vapor Barrier Epoxy Base Coat

Built for Florida's Climate

At Paradise Garage Floors, we believe a long-lasting garage floor starts with the right foundation. That's why our coating system begins with a Moisture Vapor Barrier (MVB) epoxy base coat before we apply decorative flakes and a durable polyaspartic topcoat.

Every product in our system serves a purpose, and we've carefully chosen materials that perform exceptionally well in Florida's humid climate and moisture-prone conditions.

Epoxy vs. Polyurea: What's the Difference?

Epoxy vs. Polyurea: What's the Difference?

Both epoxy and polyurea are quality flooring materials, but they perform differently when used as a base coat.

Polyurea is known for its extremely fast cure time, allowing projects to move quickly. However, because it cures so rapidly, it has less time to penetrate deeply into properly prepared concrete before hardening.

A Moisture Vapor Barrier epoxy cures more gradually, allowing it to soak deeper into the concrete surface and create a stronger bond. This deeper penetration helps provide excellent adhesion and creates a solid foundation for the entire flooring system.

Rather than relying on speed alone, we focus on building a coating system designed for long-term performance.

Why Moisture Protection Matters

Florida's climate presents unique challenges for concrete floors. High humidity and naturally occurring moisture vapor within concrete slabs can affect the longevity of a floor coating if the proper base coat isn't used.

That's why we install a Moisture Vapor Barrier epoxy. It helps reduce the effects of moisture vapor transmission while creating a durable bond between the concrete and the coating system.

This added layer of protection is one of the reasons we confidently install our flooring systems throughout Florida.

The Best of Both Systems

The Best of Both Systems

While epoxy provides outstanding adhesion, it isn't naturally UV stable when left exposed to
direct sunlight.

That's not a concern with our flooring system.

After applying the epoxy base coat, we complete a full decorative flake broadcast, completely covering the epoxy. We then seal the floor with a premium polyaspartic topcoat that provides exceptional UV resistance, chemical resistance, and long-lasting durability.

The result is a flooring system that combines the strengths of both materials:

  • Moisture Vapor Barrier epoxy for superior adhesion
  • Full decorative flake coverage for lasting beauty
  • Polyaspartic topcoat for UV protection and durability

Our goal isn't simply to install beautiful floors-it's to install floors that are built to last.

By combining a Moisture Vapor Barrier epoxy base with a premium polyaspartic finish, we provide homeowners with a coating system designed to stand up to Florida's humidity, moisture, daily wear, and changing weather conditions.

Every step of our installation process is chosen with long-term performance in mind, giving you a garage floor that looks great and delivers lasting value for years to come.
